TL;DR
- With an ever-growing amount of data generated, a completely decentralized data management solution is the need of the hour.
- IPFS is only a storage solution. Inery transcends IPFS and Filecoin by offering complete decentralized DB management.
- Inery offers true decentralization, seamless scalability, complex query functionalities, the creation of non-relational databases, DAO governance and much more.
Interplanetary File System or IPFS also referred to as the distributed permanent web, is a distributed file system that is also described as the next version of the internet. It was born out of an idea to create a decentralized, robust, and efficient infrastructure to store information.
But, while it is a distributed file system, it still encompasses the element of centralization. The data is hosted by nodes that create hashes that point to where the file is located on a centralized server. One such example of an IPFS solution is Filecoin. Released in 2014, it offers decentralized data storage using the IPFS network. However, there are two potential drawbacks of using an IPFS solution: one is that it limits the functionalities of data architecture by enabling only database storage, and secondly, the solution is designed to primarily cater to the B2C segment.
With Inery, our focus was to move beyond the IPFS and database storage solution. So we have built a platform that offers a full-fledged database management solution in a completely decentralized architecture.
Drawing Parallels Between IPFS and Inery
Here’s a key factor: Inery is not built on top of IPFS. Rather, it delivers features and functionalities that far transcend IPFS and distributed storage.
To make this possible, we are developing a layer-1 blockchain solution specifically programmed for database management. It allows for the storage and sharing of data in a distributed manner, but it goes beyond just file storage. Inery is designed to manage large amounts of data using micro and meta data that allows it to scale effectively.
One key difference between Inery and IPFS is that Inery uses its own blockchain to track data. This means that Inery can provide guarantee the provenance and integrity of data, something that IPFS cannot do.
Overcoming the Limitations of IPFS with Inery
While IPFS is an excellent solution for file storage, it does have its limitations. Below are a few shortcomings of IPFS and how Inery is solving them.
- True decentralization
While IPFS boasts an extensive peer-to-peer network, it is not entirely decentralized.
For instance, data stored on IPFS is shared on a limited number of nodes, and most IPFS storage services, like NFT.Storage and Web3.Storage, offer low redundancies. While the file is distributed on several servers, it ultimately stores information in a centralized infrastructure.
Inery, on the other hand, is completely decentralized and uses the Self-Delegated Proof of Stake Consensus model to validate transactions and secure the chain. This guarantees that data is always accessible, even if some of the nodes in the network go offline.
2. Scalability with large amounts of data
Every day, humans generate about 2.5 quintillion bytes of data.
One of the biggest challenges with IPFS is that it is not very efficient when it comes to handling large amounts of data because the content-based addressing system has to fetch data from multiple servers.
Inery is committed to providing the best possible data management solution for users. We utilize micro and metadata management in order to optimize data storage, identify relationships between data sets, and ensure that data is consistently accurate and up-to-date.
Inery was designed from the ground up as a blockchain. This approach helps us provide a comprehensive solution that meets the unique needs of enterprises making it a scalable and efficient solution for managing large amounts of data. This is particularly useful for enterprises as they can now deploy their very own private and permissioned networks for database management.
3. Complete data management
IPFS only allows for the storage and sharing of files. Inery, on the other hand, provides a complete data management solution.
IneryDB not only allows users to store data but also provides a way to manage that data. Further, with the implementation of value contracts, the databases are completely controlled by the owners and are virtually tamper-proof.
Additionally, and more importantly, Inery offers a rich set of complex queries to retrieve data and provides the ability to create non-relational databases. To use IPFS for NoSQL database, users would also require IPNS.
Summing Up
Inery is much more than just a decentralized file storage solution. It is a complete data management system that provides all the features and functionalities that enterprises need.
With its own blockchain, Inery offers unstoppable decentralization, censorship resistance, data immutability, database owner control, complex query functionality, and complete DB management including DAO data governance.
About Inery
Inery is the first-ever layer-1 blockchain offering the solution of decentralized database management with the vision to enable a new paradigm for data. Inery is designed to enable cross-chain communication of data, greater speed, and better security. It specifically addresses database management integrated with blockchain functionalities and distributed database management properties.
The Inery database management solution (IneryDB) allows a secure, low-cost, and immutable way for database management where the control of private information remains in the hands of users and enterprises. It sets the base for the web3 future to enable value creation by seamlessly connecting with other systems, applications, and layer-1 networks.
