Today, we are proud to put the spotlight on one of the leading individuals whose contribution led to the establishment of the futures contract trading industry — David Munro Anderson.

David Munro Anderson

A pioneer in the establishment of the futures contract trading industry in London, David Munro Anderson is a successful Scottish businessman. Over his distinguished career, he served as former vice-chairman of the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange and chairman of the formation committee for the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE), which would become one of the largest energy futures and options exchanges in the world.

David developed the concept of investment management in futures and options and launched one of the first futures and options funds in the world. One of his greatest contributions includes playing a key role in implementing the Financial Services Act 1986 in the United Kingdom while leading as the director of the Securities and Investments Board (SIB), the first regulatory authority in the UK encompassing everything to do with finance.

David, who has been instrumental in the European Hedge Fund industry, has been widely credited for turning the Man Group, an investment management firm, into Europe’s largest asset manager. He also served as the joint chairman on the formation committee of the Baltic International Freight Futures Exchange (BIFFEX), council member of the Association of Futures Brokers and Dealers, which became the Securities and Futures Association (SFA) and was subsequently merged into the Financial Services Authority (FSA), now the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

He holds an education from the Morrison’s Academy and was commissioned in the Black Watch and has served in West Africa.
